What does ‘KEI’ stand for?

KEI stands for “Kommissie Eerstejaars Introduktie” , which can be translated as “The commission for the introduction of first-year students”. The KEI-week is the general introduction week for all incoming higher education students, both at the University of Groningen and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences. The KEI-week is the oldest, largest and cheapest introduction week in the Netherlands.

When does the KEI-week start?

The KEI-week 2019 takes place from 12th until the 16th of August!

What does the KEI-week cost?

The fee for registration is only €25,-: the cheapest introduction week in The Netherlands! You can also sign-up during the KEI-week, this costs €28,-. When registered, you have access to all events. The KEI organisation will provide coupons that will enable you to buy drinks and meals in bars and restaurants for reduced prices.

Who can sign up for the KEI-week?

The KEI-week is organized for all first year students of the University of Groningen, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Obstetric Academy Amsterdam Groningen, Stenden University of Applied Sciences and HBO-NL. Pre-Master and Master students are also more than welcome!

Can I receive a refund if I have paid but choose not to attend the KEI-week or KEI-hostel/Sleep-in?

It’s not possible to claim a refund for any previously paid for ‘articles’ such as a ticket for the KEI-week or a place to sleep during the KEI-week (KEI-hostel, Sleep in). We advise you to wait with your registration until you are accepted at the university/school. We don’t have a maximum of participants for the KEI-week, so you can always sign up online for the KEI-week until the 9th of August. However, we don’t have an unlimited amount of places to sleep, so we can’t guarantee a place to sleep if you wait too long.

What is the deadline for registration?

Online registration is possible until Friday the 9th of August. During the KEI-week you can also sign up on Monday during the Day Registration. If you are not able to sign up before Monday evening, you can sign up at the KEI-office located at Pelsterstraat 23, during the rest of the week.

Can you join the same KEI-group as a friend?

Yes, it is possible to sign up with a friend for the KEI-week. Mention this in the registration form and you will be placed in the same KEI-group.

When is the KEI-office open in the KEI-week?

During the KEI-week the KEI-office (Pelsterstraat 23, near the Vismarkt) is open at the following times:

Monday:             09.00h-19.00h
Tuesday:             09.00h-18.00h
Wednesday:       10.00h-18.00h
Thursday:           10.00h-18.00h
Friday:                10.00h-18.00h

You can go there if you have any questions or if you want to buy a ticket after the Registration Day.

Is there a possibility for accomodation if you do not have a room yet?

If you have not found a room yet, it is very easy to stay in Groningen during the KEI-week. The KEI organisation offers varied sleeping facilities for which you can register. Make sure to book a place for the he KEI-camping, Usva Sleep-In for the KEI-hostel. In addition to the sleeping facilities of the KEI organisation, there is also the possibility to stay in a student house. Lots of current students in Groningen open their houses as a place to stay for a small price. It is also possible to book an accommodation at the Bud Gett Hostel or The Student Hostel with a discount code.

The costs for the sleeping facilities differ a lot. Look for more information about the sleeping facilities under the heading KEI-week > Sleeping.

What does the KEI-week have to offer?

During the KEI-week you get to know all the different aspects of Groningen. The KEI-week provides general information about room rental and student grants. You can also get in touch with sports organizations, student societies and other sorts of associations. Besides all this, there will be a lot of parties and other entertaining activities such as the biggest sing-along event in Europe, the Movie on the Vismarkt and a lot of great workshops.

Can the KEI-week be seen as an initiation?

No, not at all! You should see the KEI-week primarily as something that is just fun to do. It is a week full of information, activities and parties. Signing up for the KEI-week does not mean you are obligated to go to the events. You are free to go wherever you want, and join the events you like.

I am arriving in Groningen on Wednesday, can I still participate?

You definitely can! Just buy your ticket online via the website and come get your wristband at the KEI-building.

I’m allergic to certain foods, is it still possible to join the food-related events?

Of course we would still like you to join the food events. You can report your allergy to your KEI-leaders and during ‘Eat & Greet’ you can inform the student organizations, they will make sure to arrange something for you! During the KEI-picnic there will be a free packed lunch for your whole KEI-group which includes bread, fruit, juice and varied spreads. For more information about the food during the KEI-week, just email to info@keiweek.nl with the specifics of your allergy. We will make sure to inform you and possibly arrange something for you!

For KEI-leiders

When can you sign up to become a KEI-leader?

The KEI-leader subscription for the KEI-week 2018 took place on the 16th of May. The KEI-leader subscription for the KEI-week of 2019 has yet to be announced, so keep an eye on the website and social media. After this subscription a random selection will take place. This means it does not matter at what time exactly you subscribe, so you can do this whenever you have time between 08:00 a.m. and 11.59 p.m.!

After you have been selected as a KEI-leader you have to confirm your registration. This conformation will take place in June; the exact date, time and location will be announced later on. Besides, on the 10th of August the KEI-leader training will take place! This training is obligatory, so keep this in mind when you subscribe.

What is the maximum number of KEI-leaders per group?

You can sign up with a maximum of three KEI-leaders per KEI-group. This means that one person signs up as main KEI-leader and the other two can sign up via the link sent by email.
